The Caledonia class was a Royal Navy class of nine 120-gun first-rate ships of the line, designed by Sir William Rule. Its lead ship, Caledonia, was described as having “superb sailing qualities” and was selected by the Board of Admiralty as the model for future three-decker ships of the line. Royal Frederick was ordered to the same design but launched as Queen to a new design by Sir William Symonds.
