The green sea turtle (Chelonia mydas) is a large sea turtle and the only species in the genus Chelonia. It occurs in tropical and subtropical seas worldwide, including Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian Ocean waters. Adults inhabit shallow lagoons and feed mainly on seagrasses. Green sea turtles migrate between feeding grounds and nesting beaches, where females lay eggs at night. Human activities, including hunting, pollution, fishing nets, and coastal development, continue to endanger them.
