The monarch of Jerusalem was the supreme ruler of the Kingdom of Jerusalem, a Crusader state founded after Jerusalem was conquered in 1099. Godfrey of Bouillon, the first ruler, declined the title of king, while Baldwin I was crowned king in 1100. The kingdom survived after the loss of Jerusalem in 1187 and was dissolved in 1291. The title was later claimed by several European noble houses and by the current king of Spain.
