Plesiosaurus is a genus of extinct, large marine sauropterygian reptile that lived during the Early Jurassic. Nearly complete skeletons are known from the Lias of England. Around 3.5 metres long, it had a small head, a long slender neck, a broad turtle-like body, a short tail, and two pairs of elongated paddles. The genus contains one species, Plesiosaurus dolichodeirus, and gave its name to the order Plesiosauria.
