Bosnia and Herzegovina is a country in Southeast Europe on the Balkan Peninsula. It borders Serbia, Montenegro, and Croatia and has a short Adriatic coast. Its largely mountainous landscape includes the Dinaric Alps, while Sarajevo is its capital and largest city. The country became independent in 1992 after the breakup of Yugoslavia. It is decentralised into two autonomous entities and the Brčko District.
