The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) is a Central African country also known as DR Congo, Congo-Kinshasa, or formerly Zaire. Its capital, largest city, and economic center is Kinshasa. French is the official and most widely spoken language, alongside more than 200 indigenous languages. Much of its terrain consists of dense rainforest and rivers in the Congo Basin. The country has experienced colonial exploitation, political instability, wars, and ongoing armed conflict.
