The HAL Dhruv, meaning “Unshakeable”, is a utility helicopter designed and developed by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited. Its development began in November 1984 and was prolonged by design changes requested by the Indian Army, budget restrictions, and sanctions following India’s 1998 Pokhran-II nuclear tests. It entered operational service in 2002. Production versions include transport, utility, reconnaissance and medical evacuation variants, alongside a civilian and commercial version.
