Henry VIII was King of England and Ireland from 1509 until his death in 1547. His effort to annul his marriage to Catherine of Aragon led to a break with papal authority, the Acts of Supremacy, and the establishment of his leadership of the Church of England. He had six marriages and was succeeded by Edward VI.
