The Japanese occupation of Attu, also called Operation AL, resulted from an Imperial Japanese Army invasion of the Aleutian Islands in Alaska during World War II. Japanese troops landed on 7 June 1942, one day after the invasion of nearby Kiska. The occupation ended when Allied forces won the Battle of Attu on 30 May 1943.
