Napoleon Bonaparte, also known as Napoleon I, was Emperor of the French from 1804 until his abdication in 1814, with a brief restoration in 1815. He rose during the French Revolution, led campaigns across Europe and the Middle East, and became First Consul after the Coup of 18 Brumaire. His government introduced legal and administrative reforms, including the Napoleonic Code. Defeated at Waterloo, he was exiled to Saint Helena, where he died in 1821.
