Tyrannosaurus is a genus of large theropod dinosaur whose type species, Tyrannosaurus rex, is commonly called T. rex. It lived in what is now western North America during the late Maastrichtian age, 69 to 66 million years ago. A bipedal carnivore, it had a massive skull, powerful hind limbs, a heavy tail, and short forelimbs with two clawed digits. Most paleontologists consider it to have been an apex predator.
