The Imperial Edict of the Abdication of the Qing Emperor was an official decree issued by Empress Dowager Longyu for the six-year-old Xuantong Emperor on 12 February 1912, following the Xinhai Revolution. It ended more than 200 years of Qing dynasty rule and the era of Chinese imperial rule. The edict established the First Republic of China as the Qing dynasty's immediate successor and supported its inheritance of Qing territories.
