Hamilton, also known as Hamilton: An American Musical, is a biographical musical by Lin-Manuel Miranda. Based on Ron Chernow's 2004 biography of Alexander Hamilton, it depicts Hamilton's life, the American Revolution, and early United States political history. Its score draws on hip hop, R&B, pop, soul, and traditional-style show tunes. The musical premiered off-Broadway in 2015 before transferring to Broadway, where it won 11 Tony Awards and the 2016 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.
