The United States Marine Corps, also called the USMC or Marines, is the naval infantry service branch of the United States Armed Forces. It conducts expeditionary and amphibious warfare through combined arms, with infantry, artillery, aerial and special operations forces. The Corps has been part of the Department of the Navy since 30 June 1834 and operates installations and amphibious warfare ships worldwide.
