Danish resistance movement

  • World War II

The Danish resistance movements were an underground insurgency against the German occupation of Denmark during World War II. Development was initially slower than in some occupied countries because Denmark's democratic government remained in power under lenient arrangements. Members produced illegal publications, gathered intelligence and carried out sabotage. The resistance helped rescue almost all Danish Jews. Major Copenhagen-based groups included BOPA and Holger Danske.
