The October Revolution was the second of two revolutions in Russia in 1917. Led by Vladimir Lenin's Bolsheviks, it began with an insurrection in Petrograd on 7 November 1917, 25 October in the Old Style calendar. Bolshevik forces occupied government buildings and captured the Winter Palace. The event helped precipitate the Russian Civil War and was followed by the creation of the Soviet Union.
