Anaximander was a pre-Socratic Greek philosopher from Miletus in Ionia, in modern-day Turkey. A member of the Milesian school and a pupil of Thales, he later became its second master. He wrote studies, though only one fragment remains. His work addressed the origins of the universe, celestial bodies, physics, geometry and geography. He proposed the apeiron, the infinite, as the source of all things and created a world map.
