A split intersection is a rarely built, at-grade variant of the diamond interchange. Its arterial road is divided into separate carriageways, spaced 200 to 300 feet (61 to 91 m) apart. This arrangement lets left-turning vehicles queue behind a completed turn into the crossroad without conflicting with oncoming traffic. The crossroad uses two intersections instead of one four-leg intersection, reducing conflicts in a manner similar to a three-leg T-intersection.
