Josef Kammhuber was a career officer who served in the Imperial German Army, Nazi Germany's Luftwaffe and postwar West Germany's Air Force. During World War II, he became the Luftwaffe's first general of night fighters and created the night fighter defense system called the Kammhuber Line. He was dismissed in 1943 after conflicts with Erhard Milch. After the war, he became the first Inspector of the Air Force in the Bundeswehr.
