USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70) is the United States Navy's third Nimitz-class supercarrier. Named for Georgia congressman Carl Vinson, she was launched in 1980 and made her maiden voyage in 1983. The ship underwent refueling and overhaul from 2005 to 2009. Carl Vinson is the flagship of Carrier Strike Group 1, with Carrier Air Wing Two as her air wing, and has deployed in several U.S. military operations.
