The Brontës were a 19th-century literary family born in Thornton and later associated with Haworth, Yorkshire, England. Sisters Charlotte, Emily and Anne were poets and novelists who published under the male pseudonyms Currer, Ellis and Acton Bell. Charlotte's Jane Eyre was their first successful work. The siblings also created complex collaborative stories in an imagined world during childhood. Their former Haworth home is now the Brontë Parsonage Museum.
