Polo kinase is a class of kinase enzymes, EC 2.7.11.21. These transferases catalyze phosphate transfer from ATP to proteins, producing ADP and a phosphoprotein. They act on the sidechain oxygen atom of serine or threonine residues in proteins. The systematic name is ATP:protein phosphotransferase (spindle-pole-dependent). Polo kinases participate in cell cycle pathways, including yeast cell cycle and progesterone-mediated oocyte maturation.
