Order of Michael the Brave

The Order of Michael the Brave, or Ordinul Mihai Viteazul, is Romania's highest military decoration. King Ferdinand I instituted it during the early stages of the Romanian Campaign of the First World War, and it was awarded again during the Second World War. It may be bestowed on an individual or an entire unit. The order is named for Michael the Brave, a late 16th-century prince of Wallachia, Transylvania, and Moldavia.
