Thomas Clayton Wolfe was an American novelist and short story writer, born in 1900 and died in 1938. He is known especially for his first novel, Look Homeward, Angel, published in 1929, and for short fiction published near the end of his life. A pioneer of autobiographical fiction, he wrote poetic and impressionistic prose that reflected American culture. He was associated with the Southern Renaissance and influenced writers including Jack Kerouac, Ray Bradbury, and Philip Roth.
