The Australasian snapper (Chrysophrys auratus), also called silver seabream, is a species of porgie found in coastal waters from Australia and New Zealand to the Philippines, Indonesia, mainland China, Taiwan and Japan. Its Northern and Southern Hemisphere distribution areas are disjunct. Despite being widely called snapper in Australia and New Zealand, it is not a member of the Lutjanidae snapper family. It is the only species in the genus Chrysophrys.
