Toronto is Canada's most populous city and the capital of Ontario. It lies on a harbour on Lake Ontario's northwestern shore. Incorporated as the City of Toronto in 1834, it became Ontario's capital in 1867. Toronto is Canada's largest financial centre and has a diverse population, with about half of residents born outside Canada and more than 160 languages spoken.
