Muhammad Ali, born Cassius Marcellus Clay Jr., was an American professional boxer and activist. He won Olympic light heavyweight gold in 1960 and became world heavyweight champion after defeating Sonny Liston in 1964. Ali refused military induction during the Vietnam War and his conviction was overturned in 1971. Known for unorthodox movement and rope-a-dope, he retired in 1981 and later focused on religion, philanthropy, and activism.
