Sinking of the Titanic

RMS Titanic sank in the North Atlantic Ocean on 15 April 1912, after striking an iceberg during her maiden voyage from Southampton to New York City. More than 2,200 people were aboard. The ship's limited lifeboat capacity, evacuation difficulties and the time required for rescue contributed to heavy loss of life. RMS Carpathia rescued 710 survivors. The disaster led to inquiries and changes in maritime safety regulations.
