HTTP, or Hypertext Transfer Protocol, is an application layer protocol in the Internet protocol suite for distributed, collaborative hypermedia information systems. It underpins data communication on the World Wide Web and uses a client-server request-response model. Web browsers commonly act as clients and web servers as servers. HTTP also supports intermediate elements such as caches and proxy servers, while web resources are located through URLs using the http and https URI schemes.
