Mosasaurus is the type genus of Mosasauridae, an extinct group of aquatic squamate reptiles. It lived about 82 to 66 million years ago in the Late Cretaceous. Fossils have been found around the Atlantic Ocean and adjacent seaways, including in the Americas, Europe, Africa, Western Asia, and Antarctica. Mosasaurus was a large marine predator with paddle-shaped limbs, a fluked tail, robust jaws, and teeth adapted for cutting prey.
