Mycenaean Greece, also called the Mycenaean civilization, was the final phase of the Bronze Age in ancient Greece. It was a mainland Greek civilization organized around palatial states and ruled by a warrior elite headed by a wanax. Its centers included Mycenae, Pylos, Tiryns, and Thebes. Linear B provides the first written records of Greek. The civilization ended amid the wider eastern Mediterranean Bronze Age collapse and was followed by the Greek Dark Ages.
