Drop-stitch knitting

Drop-stitch knitting is a knitting technique that produces open, usually vertical stripes in fabric. A solid knitted fabric is made first, then one or more stitches are deliberately dropped, forming a run or ladder that continues to the cast-on edge or stops at an increase. The open runs can create a casual see-through effect. Their cross-strands may also be reworked with a crochet hook or bound in patterns using contrasting yarn.
