Sir Andrew John Wiles is an English mathematician and Royal Society Research Professor at the University of Oxford who specialises in number theory. He is best known for proving Fermat's Last Theorem. His work connected Galois representations, elliptic curves and modular forms, and contributed tools later used in the proof of the full modularity theorem. He became Oxford's first Regius Professor of Mathematics in 2018.
