Hobart's Funnies was the nickname for specialist armoured fighting vehicles based on tanks and operated by the British Army's 79th Armoured Division or Royal Engineers specialists during the Second World War. Developed after problems encountered by standard tanks in the Dieppe Raid, they were intended for the invasion of Normandy and played a major part on Commonwealth beaches during the landings. Most conversions used Churchill or M4 Sherman tanks.
