The Summer Palace, also called Yihe Garden, is a complex of lakes, gardens and palaces in Beijing. An imperial garden during the Qing dynasty, it includes Longevity Hill, Kunming Lake and the Seventeen-Arch Bridge. The site covers 2.9 square kilometres, with water comprising three-quarters of its area. In 1998, UNESCO added it to the World Heritage List for its landscape garden design.
