The Book of Joseph is an untranslated text identified by Joseph Smith after he analyzed Egyptian papyri that came into his possession in 1835. Smith taught that it contained writings by the biblical patriarch Joseph. He produced the first part of the Book of Abraham from the same collection, but died before any known portion of the Book of Joseph was translated. Egyptologists identify its associated scroll as a Book of the Dead.
