Coma Berenices is an ancient asterism and one of the 88 modern constellations. Located between Leo and Boötes, it is visible from both hemispheres. Its Latin name means “Berenice’s Hair” and refers to Queen Berenice II of Egypt. Its major stars include Alpha, Beta and Gamma Comae Berenices. The constellation contains the North Galactic Pole, the Coma Cluster, and the galaxy Malin 1.
