Saint Pierre and Miquelon is a self-governing territorial overseas collectivity of France in the northwestern Atlantic Ocean, off the Canadian island of Newfoundland. The archipelago has eight islands and covers 242 km2 of land. Its residents are French citizens and elect a deputy to the National Assembly. It is an overseas country and territory of the European Union, but is outside the Schengen area and European customs territory.
