Commissioned on 31 December 1942, she served in the Asiatic-Pacific theater and took part in the New Georgia-Rendova-Vangunu occupation. A Japanese torpedo from Ro-106 struck her off the Solomon Islands on 18 July 1943, breaking the ship in two. Eighty-two men were lost. She received one battle star and the Navy Unit Commendation.
