The Kerch Strait is a strait in Eastern Europe that connects the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov. It separates Crimea's Kerch Peninsula to the west from Russia's Taman Peninsula to the east. The strait is 3.1 to 15 kilometres wide and reaches depths of up to 18 metres. Its name comes from the Crimean city and harbor of Kerch, and it was formerly known as the Cimmerian Bosporus or Straits of Taman.
