On August 10, 2018, Horizon Air ground service agent Richard Russell stole a Bombardier Q400 from Seattle–Tacoma International Airport. Russell, who had no piloting experience, made an unauthorized takeoff and was intercepted by two F-15 fighters. While in contact with air traffic control, he described himself as a “broken guy.” About 1 hour and 15 minutes later, he deliberately crashed the aircraft on Ketron Island, intending to die by suicide. No other people were injured.
