1906 Atlanta race massacre

The 1906 Atlanta race massacre was a series of violent attacks by armed White American mobs against Black Americans in Atlanta, Georgia. It began after newspapers published unsubstantiated reports alleging that Black men had raped four white women, and lasted from September 22 through September 24, 1906. At least 25 African Americans and two white people officially died, though the total remains disputed. White mobs attacked Black residents, homes, and businesses before the Georgia National Guard was called in.
