Remembrance Day, also called Poppy Day, is a memorial day observed in former British Empire countries and current Commonwealth member states. It honours armed forces members who died in the line of duty. Usually observed on 11 November, it recalls the end of First World War hostilities in 1918. The observance developed from Armistice Day, and many Commonwealth countries adopted its current name during the Second World War.
