Shope papilloma virus (SPV), also called cottontail rabbit papilloma virus or Kappapapillomavirus 2, is a papillomavirus that infects certain rabbits and hares. It causes cancerous lesions resembling horns, usually on or near the head. These carcinomas can metastasize or interfere with feeding. Richard E. Shope discovered the virus in 1933 while investigating such horns. It was first found in cottontail rabbits in the Midwestern United States.
