A setter is a type of gundog most often used for hunting game including quail, pheasant and grouse. In the United Kingdom, the four setter breeds and pointers commonly form a subgroup within the gundog group because they share a function, though setter breeds differ in head, bone and substance. American and Canadian kennel clubs classify setters in the Sporting Group. Show-line setters are generally heavier and larger than working-line setters.
