Saturn's sixth-largest moon, with water-rich plumes
Epic
Enceladus is Saturn's sixth-largest moon and is about 500 kilometres in diameter. Its surface is covered by freshly deposited snow and includes both heavily cratered regions and young, tectonically deformed terrain. Cassini observed water-rich plumes and more than 100 geysers at its south pole, where evidence indicates a subsurface ocean. Its orbital resonance with Dione heats its interior and contributes to continuing geological activity.
