Bone morphogenetic protein 8B is a human protein encoded by the BMP8B gene. It belongs to the TGF-β superfamily and has close sequence homology to BMP7 and BMP5. The protein is believed to contribute to bone and cartilage development and has been detected in the hippocampus of murine embryos. Its early embryonic expression has also suggested a possible role in early development.
