Astro Boy, also called New Mighty Atom, is a 1980 color anime series and a remake of the 1963 black-and-white series. Both series adapt Osamu Tezuka's manga. This version gives greater emphasis to Astro Boy's robotic abilities and action scenes, while retaining the theme of robots with hearts. It has a darker tone than earlier versions and was the last Astro Boy work written and directed by Tezuka.
