Metelis, also called Kom el-Ahmer, was an ancient Egyptian city in the Beheira Governorate of the Western Nile Delta. It was the capital of the Metelite nome, the seventh nome of Lower Egypt, and lay between the Canopic and Bolbitine estuaries of the Nile. Excavations have found remains from the Late Dynastic, Hellenistic, Roman and early Islamic periods, including Roman baths, amphora storage buildings, coins and a cemetery.
