The solar eclipse of July 22, 2009 was a total solar eclipse at the Moon's descending orbital node. Its magnitude was 1.07991. Occurring about 5.5 hours after perigee, the Moon appeared larger than the Sun and blocked direct sunlight along a narrow path. It was the longest total solar eclipse of the 21st century, with maximum totality lasting 6 minutes and 38.86 seconds off the coast of Southeast Asia.
